Sports Therapy & Return to Play Program

Sports physical therapy is a specialized form of rehabilitation treatment of a sports-specific injury. Many factors can contribute to sporting injuries, including lack of warm up, poor training habits, improper stretching, repetitive micro trauma, over-use injuries and re-injury of an old injury. The physical therapists at CRI are highly trained in working with athletes after an injury or surgery to regain your motion and strength and return to full functional activities; as you progress we focus on optimization of return to sports with maximum skill and preparation. Whether you are a weekend warrior, a high school or college athlete or a pre/post-surgical patient, the physical therapists at Coastal Rehabilitation Inc, can help you to heal, recover and get back to your favorite sporting activity in the quickest and safest way possible.

While an injury is an injury, each athlete is unique. The side lines are no place to be stuck and each athlete has individual goals for returning to their specific sport(s) and activities. We will custom design a specific rehabilitation program for you based on your sport(s), your fitness level, and your individual goals. We work with you to progress from initial injury to full sporting activity in a safe and effective manner; progressing the athlete as quickly and safely as possible.

Our therapists are knowledgeable about post-surgical protocols, precautions and goals to ensure your safety during the rehabilitative process. CRI’s physical therapists can teach therapeutic exercise, specific stretches, balance, proprioception, agility training, and provide manual hands-on techniques to address problems which cannot be managed without skilled therapeutic intervention. We emphasize re-training of the entire body to build up an athlete returning to specific sports with optimal performance and least risk of re-injury.

By following a systematic progression of recovery and rehabilitation; athletes are able to return to play in the safest manner to minimize the risk of re-injury and enable each athlete to perform at his or her best when they return to play. Frequently, athletes convince themselves that they are ready to return to play after they have stopped limping or the swelling has gone. Athletes often may feel ready to return; however, they commonly are only 70 to 75 percent recovered and have not regained their full flexibility, strength, and power required to safely participate in sports.

We employ highly recognized return to sport functional testing to ensure optimal safety for each athlete. The ultimate goal of our sports therapy and return to play program is to return an athlete to full sporting activities without putting the individual or others at undue risk for injury.
